Job Description
The Staff Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and supporting smooth transitions across care settings. This role ensures professional nursing practice is followed throughout the patient journey, meeting the needs of patients and families. The Staff Nurse provides age-appropriate care in line with the Nursing Scope of Practice, upholds the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct in Abu Dhabi and UAE, and actively supports the mission, vision, and values of SSMC.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Collect and analyze patient data—physical, psychosocial, cognitive, emotional, and spiritual—to determine health issues. Use evidence-based assessment tools and prioritize findings based on patient needs. Document assessments accurately and share insights with the care team.
- Planning and Outcomes: Develop individualized, culturally appropriate care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Apply evidence-based practices to set measurable goals and adjust care plans according to patient response and evolving needs.
- Implementation and Care Delivery: Execute care plans, administer medications, and perform procedures according to organizational protocols. Ensure all interventions are documented and communicate relevant information across care teams. Support cost-effective, safe, and efficient resource use.
- Health Teaching and Promotion: Educate patients and families on health management, preventive care, and self-care skills. Evaluate effectiveness of teaching strategies and document education provided.
- Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate patient progress, update care plans, and communicate findings to healthcare teams. Participate in patient rounds and handovers to ensure continuity and safety of care.
- Evidence-Based Practice: Integrate current research and best practices into care delivery. Participate in performance improvement projects, research activities, and share findings with colleagues to enhance clinical practice.
- Leadership: Serve as a role model, supervise junior staff and students, and coordinate delegated tasks to ensure safe and effective care. Demonstrate critical thinking in decision-making and participate in organizational initiatives to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
- Professional Accountability: Uphold ethical nursing standards, advocate for patients and families, evaluate personal practice against professional guidelines, and maintain compliance with organizational policies. Promote environmental health and safety, manage emergencies, and support continuous learning and mentorship within the team.
Skill & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience post-qualification in an appropriate healthcare setting.
(Note: Experience requirement is waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities who have completed their internship.) - Bachelor’s degree in Nursing OR a Nursing degree of at least two (2) years duration.
- Registration as a Registered Nurse in one of the following countries: Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
- Valid and current national nursing license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, relevant to the area of specialty.
