Job Description
The role involves independently performing sonography procedures, capturing high-quality diagnostic images, and analyzing results for accuracy. The specialist works directly with patients, operating sonographic equipment to examine the motion, structure, and composition of organs, tissues, blood flow, and bodily masses. In addition, the role includes prenatal imaging to monitor fetal development and reporting findings to the supervising clinician as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises and guides junior staff, ensuring adherence to departmental and facility policies and procedures.
- Maintains adequate inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment required for daily operations.
- Assists with patient preparations, IV cannulations, and administration of contrast agents as needed.
- Applies knowledge of anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols and coordinates with radiologists or obstetricians for additional imaging or tests.
- Ensures safe and competent use of radiology equipment, patient appliances, and aids, promptly reporting any equipment faults or incidents to senior staff.
- Operates advanced imaging software for tasks such as image reconstruction, quantification, and dynamic imaging.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment.
- Ensures sonographic images are clear and accurate for diagnostic purposes, adjusting equipment settings as needed.
- Monitors and develops quality improvement indicators to maintain continuous improvement and ensure compliance with patient care standards.
Skill & Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of postgraduate experience in a multimodality facility within an acute care hospital, including at least 2 years as a senior radiographer or sonographer in an acute care setting.
- For UAE Nationals: Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in an acute care hospital.
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound or Sonography (minimum 3 years course duration)
- Associate Degree in Sonography (minimum 2 years course duration)
- Registration, certification, or accreditation as a Radiographer/Sonographer
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma from an accredited institution in Radiography/Radiology
