Job Description

The Head of Credit oversees credit assessment, approvals, and portfolio management, ensuring compliance with CBUAE regulations, internal policies, and risk standards. The role manages credit strategy across lending products, supports the Hertz operating lease business, and balances risk with business growth to maintain a high-quality, compliant portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the Company’s Credit Risk Management Framework and Credit Policy in line with CBUAE regulations, Corporate Governance standards, and IFRS 9/ECL requirements.
  • Set the company’s risk appetite, define credit criteria for each product, and determine approval limits, obtaining Board and regulator approvals when needed.
  • Lead or participate in Credit Committee meetings to ensure sound underwriting decisions.
  • Oversee credit assessment for all lending products, including personal loans, credit cards, auto finance, and SME loans, ensuring consistent application of risk standards.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, track delinquency trends, and identify concentration risks; recommend measures to manage or reduce risks.
  • Ensure full compliance with CBUAE regulations, Consumer Protection rules, AML/CFT requirements, and related notices.
  • Prepare and present regular credit risk reports to the CEO, Board Risk Committee, and regulators.
  • Serve as the main contact for CBUAE examiners during inspections and respond to regulatory queries.
  • Establish end-to-end credit approval processes, covering KYC/AML checks, documentation standards, and limit management.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties between credit origination, underwriting, and collections/recovery.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a skilled Credit team covering underwriting, credit risk analysis, and portfolio management.
  • Provide ongoing training on regulatory requirements, risk assessment methods, and market best practices.

Skill & Experience

  • Candidates should have experience in the UAE banking or financial services sector, with strong knowledge of local regulations and practices.
  • Proven experience working directly with the UAE Central Bank and developing credit policies that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and scale credit systems for multiple lending and leasing products.
  • Hands-on experience in credit initiation, underwriting, and maintaining portfolio quality.
  • Track record of building and leading high-performing credit teams in growing or transforming organizations.
  • High integrity and independence in decision-making, especially under business or commercial pressures.
  • Experience in credit digitalization, automation, and implementing technology-driven credit solutions within regulated institutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in credit risk or underwriting in the UAE banking or finance sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in managing consumer and corporate credit risk, portfolio analytics, and collections strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of CBUAE regulations, Basel and risk management standards, IFRS 9, and UAE market practices.
  • Experience with digital lending platforms, credit scoring models, and automated decision systems is an advantage.
