Job Description

The Consultant Physician oversees the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care, ensuring that all patients under their supervision are accurately diagnosed, treated, and managed. They serve as a clinical role model within their specialty and are responsible for guiding, supporting, and training junior medical staff to maintain professional standards and deliver safe, effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care by accurately diagnosing, treating, and managing patients according to specialty standards.
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
  • Participate in ward rounds, reassessing patients regularly and updating treatment plans as needed.
  • Review investigation results and adjust treatments appropriately.
  • Coordinate with other specialties and healthcare teams to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
  • Handle referrals from emergency, primary care, specialty clinics, and other hospitals.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Maintain clear, timely documentation of clinical information in accordance with hospital procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues regarding care plans.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to regular audits to enhance clinical practice.
  • Assist in clinical education, mentoring, and training of junior staff.
  • Stay updated on medical research, literature, and developments relevant to the specialty.

Skill & Experience

  • Tier 1: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Consultant or equivalent after board certification.
  • Tier 2: Minimum 8 years of full-time experience as a Consultant or equivalent after board certification (fellowship years included) in an internationally accredited institution.
  • Clinical fellowship training after primary specialty board can count toward experience.
  • Each year of clinical fellowship counts as two years of clinical experience.
  • Applicable only for clinical subspecialty fellowships in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, USA, or HAAD-accredited programs.
