Job Description

The Consultant Physician leads and oversees the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based care within their specialty. They are responsible for accurately diagnosing, managing, and treating all patients under their care. The role also includes setting an example of clinical excellence and providing guidance, supervision, and training to junior medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise junior medical staff and take responsibility for the care they provide.
  • Follow all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgeries, discharges, outpatient management, and follow-up practices.
  • Use hospital resources responsibly and appropriately.
  • Lead ward rounds and regularly reassess both inpatients and outpatients in line with best practice.
  • Accurately document all clinical information clearly and in a timely manner, following established procedures.
  • Review investigation results and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other medical specialties and support services when additional input is needed.
  • Take part in multidisciplinary meetings to plan safe and coordinated patient care.
  • Ensure patients are properly prepared for procedures and obtain informed consent.
  • Accept appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and other hospitals.
  • Participate in the on-call schedule, covering evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and, with consent, their families or caregivers.
  • Maintain professional and cooperative relationships with all staff, supporting a team-based approach to care.
  • Perform additional clinical responsibilities as assigned.

Skill & Experience

  • Tier 1: Requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a consultant or in an equivalent role after board certification.
  • Tier 2: Requires at least 8 years of full-time work as a consultant or in an equivalent position after board certification, including time spent in fellowship training, at an internationally accredited institution.
  • For UAE Nationals: Clinical fellowship training completed after primary specialty board certification may count toward required experience.
  • Each year of approved clinical fellowship is considered equivalent to two years of clinical experience.
  • This substitution applies only to clinical subspecialty fellowships completed in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, or in HAAD-accredited programs.
