Backend Engineer
Job Description
Design, build, and maintain server-side systems, APIs, and databases to support web and mobile applications. Collaborate with front-end developers, product, and engineering teams to ensure scalable, secure, and efficient backend solutions. Optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to the overall architecture and reliability of the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services for a new B2B marketplace across web and mobile platforms.
- Take full ownership of backend components, from design and implementation to deployment and ongoing improvement.
- Work in newly formed squads, contributing to core systems as the team and product are built from the ground up.
- Collaborate closely with frontend, product, and data teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
- Adapt existing marketplace systems and build new capabilities for use cases that don’t yet exist.
- Ensure system performance, reliability, and scalability to support multiple product categories launching simultaneously.
- Help establish strong engineering practices and a collaborative team environment.
Skill & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Engineering.
- Strong experience in backend engineering, preferably with marketplaces, e-commerce, or platform products.
- Solid knowledge of backend system design, APIs, data models, and scalable architectures.
- Comfortable working in agile, cross-functional teams and fast-changing environments.
- Quick to understand new domains, business models, and B2B customer journeys.
- Problem-solving mindset, willing to take on challenges beyond existing systems.
- Takes ownership and makes technical decisions in early-stage product environments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with new teams and squads.
