Job Description

Responsible for performing ECG procedures for both inpatients and outpatients, ensuring accurate and timely recordings. Assists patients in preparation for ambulatory and stress ECG tests, explaining the procedure and addressing any concerns. Maintains proper documentation of results, follows all safety and hygiene protocols, and works closely with the medical team to support patient care and accurate diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrocardiograph (ECG) recordings for patients, ensuring accurate and timely results.
  • Monitor ECGs for abnormal patterns and promptly notify physicians of critical findings.
  • Prepare patients for Holter and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, providing instructions for proper use over 24 hours.
  • Assist physicians with stress or treadmill studies, ensuring patient safety throughout the procedure.
  • Enter data into ECG machines and mark tracings to indicate chest electrode positions.
  • Maintain, check, and replenish ECG machine supplies such as paper and ink, reporting any malfunctions or defects.
  • Supervise and monitor all ECG equipment in the department, reporting maintenance or breakdowns to senior staff.
  • Edit and forward final test results to attending physicians for analysis and interpretation.
  • Assess and order necessary materials or equipment in consultation with senior staff, demonstrating safe usage to patients or caregivers within competency limits.
  • Intervene to repair minor equipment issues when possible and ensure proper maintenance.
  • Keep accurate contemporaneous written and electronic records in accordance with professional and facility standards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in all forms.
  • Follow all safety regulations when handling and operating equipment.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of production and quality documentation relevant to ECG procedures.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluating ECG processes to identify issues, improve procedures, and maintain high-quality patient care.

Skill & Experience

  • Completion of a 2-year certificate or diploma in Medical Sciences or a related allied health field, including formal ECG training.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ work experience as an ECG Technician.
  • Applicants with a nursing background must have at least 2 years of experience in cardiac care.
