Job Description

The Specialist Physician works alongside the Consultant Physician to provide safe, evidence-based care focused on the needs of patients. They assess and manage complex medical conditions, develop and oversee patient care plans, and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team. The role also includes supporting and supervising junior medical staff and contributing to their training and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients thoroughly, take detailed medical histories, request and review diagnostic tests, and develop individualized treatment plans for conditions within the specialty.
  • Prescribe and provide appropriate medications, therapies, or specialized care, and perform necessary procedures or surgeries as required.
  • Work closely with other medical specialists, departments, and support services to ensure coordinated and complete patient care.
  • Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, and medical students, providing instruction and support in clinical practice.
  • Keep accurate, clear, and timely records of all clinical information in line with legal, regulatory, and hospital requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, clinical audits, and research to maintain and improve standards of patient care and safety.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and their families, explaining conditions, treatments, and procedures, and ensuring informed consent is obtained.
  • Follow all hospital, departmental, and divisional policies, as well as Department of Health regulations, including safety, infection control, and occupational health guidelines.

Skill & Experience

  • Hold an MBBS or an equivalent medical degree from a recognized medical school.
  • Complete a structured clinical residency or fellowship program in the relevant specialty.
  • Have at least 2–3 years of clinical experience after specialization, depending on DOH tier requirements and hospital policies.
  • Hold a valid Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi license or have an eligibility letter to practice in Abu Dhabi.
  • Provide proof of a current and valid license from the country of last or current practice.
  • Possess a current Certificate of Good Standing from the relevant licensing authority.
  • Successfully complete the DOH licensing exam, which may include an oral assessment depending on the specialty.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, good problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to ongoing professional development (CME/CPD).
  • Be fluent in English and Arabic; knowledge of additional languages is an added advantage.
