Job Description

The Consultant Physician leads the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based medical care within their specialty. They are responsible for accurately assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients under their care in an efficient and professional manner. The consultant also supports and guides junior doctors through supervision and teaching, while maintaining high clinical standards in everyday practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow and support all hospital, departmental, and divisional policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Support the Division Chief in arranging duty schedules to ensure continuous medical coverage.
  • Attend divisional meetings when required and contribute to discussions and planning.
  • Assist with recruitment activities for new medical staff when requested.
  • Carry out additional administrative or clinical tasks as assigned by the Division Chief.
  • Supervise junior doctors and remain responsible for the quality of care they provide.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and review both inpatient and outpatient cases.
  • Review investigation results promptly and adjust treatment plans when necessary.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely medical records in line with hospital guidelines.
  • Ensure patients are properly prepared for procedures and that informed consent is obtained.
  • Accept appropriate referrals from emergency services, clinics, primary care, and other hospitals.
  • Participate in the on-call rota, covering evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Work closely with other specialties and support services when further input is needed.
  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings to support safe and coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with all staff and support a team-based approach to care.
  • Follow hospital policies related to admissions, consultations, procedures, discharge, and follow-up.
  • Perform other clinical duties as assigned.

Skill & Experience

  • Tier 2: Requires at least eight years of full-time work as a consultant or in an equivalent role after board certification, including time spent in fellowship training, in a recognized international institution.
  • Tier 1: Requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent role after board certification.
  • For UAE Nationals: Clinical fellowship training completed after primary specialty board certification may be counted as work experience.
  • Each year of approved clinical fellowship will be counted as two years of clinical experience.
  • This applies only to subspecialty clinical fellowships completed in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, or in HAAD-accredited programs.
