Job Description
The Specialist Physician is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-focused care, similar to the Consultant Physician. The role sets an example of clinical competence within the Division and supports the guidance, supervision, and training of junior medical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Follows and supports hospital, departmental, and divisional policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Participates in performance management, including peer reviews and productivity/utilization assessments.
- Assists Consultant staff to ensure adequate medical coverage at all times.
- Attends divisional meetings as required.
- Supports reporting, investigation, and resolution of incidents.
- Performs administrative or clinical duties as assigned.
- Diagnoses and treats patients according to established best practice standards under Consultant supervision.
- Assists Consultant Physician in supervising junior medical staff and shares responsibility for patient care.
- Complies with hospital policies on admissions, consultations, patient care, procedures, discharge, and follow-up.
- Participates in multidisciplinary meetings for safe and effective patient care planning.
- Prepares patients for procedures and obtains informed consent.
- Accepts appropriate patient referrals from various departments, clinics, and hospitals.
- Provides rotational on-call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Communicates clinical information to patients and families in a timely and clear manner.
- Maintains positive working relationships and promotes a team-based approach.
- Supports quality improvement initiatives and regular audits to enhance clinical practice.
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures patient information is protected.
- Promotes workplace safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness.
Skill & Experience
- Tier 1: No experience required after board certification.
- Tier 2: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience after qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
- UAE Nationals: No additional experience required after board certification.
- UAE Nationals and Non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD-accredited residency programs: No experience required after board certification.
- Tier 3: Minimum 3 years of clinical experience as a Specialist after qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
