Job Description

The Specialist Physician provides high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care, sharing the responsibilities of a Consultant Physician. The role serves as a model of clinical excellence within the division and supports the supervision, guidance, and training of junior medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centered, evidence-based care under the supervision of the Consultant Physician.
  • Support departmental and hospital policies, performance management, and peer review processes.
  • Assist in ensuring adequate medical coverage within the Division.
  • Attend divisional meetings and participate in incident reporting and investigations.
  • Diagnose and treat patients according to best practice standards.
  • Supervise and share responsibility for care provided by junior medical staff.
  • Comply with hospital policies on admissions, consultations, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up care.
  • Lead ward rounds and regularly reassess inpatients and outpatients.
  • Review investigation results and adjust treatment plans as required.
  • Liaise with other specialties and support services for patient care.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure safe, holistic care.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain informed consent.
  • Accept referrals from Emergency, primary care, specialty clinics, walk-ins, and other hospitals.
  • Participate in rotational on-call coverage including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Communicate clinical information to patients and families in a timely manner.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and promote team-based care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinical research/publications.
  • Instruct, guide, and supervise junior staff and student nurses.
  • Stay updated with current literature, clinical trends, and technologies.
  • Comply with occupational health, safety, and infection control guidelines.
  • Support mentoring, training, and development of UAE national staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adhere to hospital dress codes.

Skill & Experience

  • Tier 1: No additional clinical experience required after board certification.
  • Tier 2: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience after qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
  • UAE Nationals (Tier 1 & 2): No experience required post board certification.
  • UAE Nationals and Non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD-accredited residency programs: No experience required post board certification.
  • Tier 3: Minimum 3 years of clinical experience as a Specialist after qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
