Job Description
An Engineering Manager is needed to lead the development of SaaS-based logistics and fulfillment products. The role focuses on building a carrier-agnostic platform that streamlines logistics by integrating and optimizing business processes while adding predictability to operations. This position suits a hands-on technical leader who can balance team management with architectural decisions, deliver scalable and reliable systems, and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable, high-availability systems for logistics, transportation, and supply chain operations
- Make architecture decisions for core platforms, including order management, shipment tracking, routing, inventory, and integrations
- Review code, enforce best practices, and maintain high standards for quality, performance, and security
- Own system reliability, scalability, and manage technical debt through structured processes
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to define technical roadmaps and prioritize initiatives
- Oversee system architecture and ensure technical accuracy in team deliverables
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team in a fast-paced startup environment
- Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and support career development plans
- Promote accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement across the engineering team
- Hire and onboard engineers aligned with the company’s culture and pace
- Translate logistics and supply chain requirements into actionable technical solutions
- Lead sprint planning, prioritization, and project delivery using Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Balance speed and stability while delivering iterative product features
- Ensure predictable delivery timelines by setting milestones, removing roadblocks, and maintaining high-quality releases
- Act as a bridge between technical teams, business units, and external clients
- Communicate technical tradeoffs and decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Support customer-facing teams for enterprise logistics clients when needed
Skill & Experience
- 10–12+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in Engineering Manager or Tech Lead roles
- Proven experience building SaaS or platform products in startup or scale-up environments
- Background in logistics, supply chain, transportation, or warehouse management systems, including OMS, last-mile delivery, route optimization, and carrier integrations
- Hands-on expertise with modern tech stacks, including microservices, APIs, cloud-native systems, and programming languages like Java and Python, along with frontend technologies
- Strong understanding of system design, distributed systems, and integration patterns
- Experience with real-time data processing, event-driven systems, and third-party system integrations
- Deep knowledge of Agile/Scrum development practices and iterative delivery
- Strong leadership, ownership, and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management experience
- Comfortable working in fast-changing, ambiguous environments with shifting priorities
- Product-focused mindset with attention to customer impact and business outcomes
- Experience scaling engineering teams in early-stage or growth-stage startups
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Knowledge of data pipelines, analytics, and reporting systems
