Job Description
The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining machinery and equipment, including tampers, dynamic stabilizers, ballast distribution systems, ballast regulators, sand removal machines, mobile flash butt welding machines, civil construction equipment, and light or heavy road vehicles, following the manufacturer’s guidelines and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Always prioritize the safety of themselves, team members, and business customers.
- Follow all relevant department procedures and safe work practices.
- Report equipment faults promptly to the line manager.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and repair work on vehicles and related machinery.
- Perform tasks both on-site and in the workshop or depot.
- Work under the guidance of the Equipment Foreman.
- Help reduce equipment downtime and avoid delays in production.
- Identify recurring equipment issues and provide feedback and suggestions to the foreman.
- Be prepared to support business operations outside normal working hours for breakdown response when needed.
Skill & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Formal technical qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Ability to maintain both on-track and off-track vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics.
- Skilled in 12/24V electrical circuit diagnostics.
- Able to troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Understanding of PLC boards and electrical schematics.
- Valid driving license for cars and heavy vehicles.
