Job Description
Provides age-appropriate care for patients in the Pediatric Urgent Care Clinic during scheduled shifts. Performs nursing assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and care coordination, involving families as needed. Ensures safe, professional care in compliance with JCI standards, International Patient Safety Goals, and other national and international regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and care coordination involving families when appropriate.
- Performs continuous critical care assessment of patients’ and families’ physical and psychological needs.
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to plan and prioritize patient care and revises care plans as needed.
- Initiates appropriate transfer plans and anticipates potential problems by recognizing subtle clinical cues.
- Documents all relevant patient data accurately according to hospital and departmental standards.
- Ensures availability and proper maintenance of supplies and equipment, and performs clerical duties as required.
- Meets Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCI) mandatory education requirements, including fire, safety, and infection control.
- Participates in staff meetings, unit committees, and goal-setting initiatives.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff, including the safe handling and administration of narcotic, controlled, and semi-controlled drugs.
- Completes unit competencies such as pain management and use of emergency department devices; maintains professional competency based on current research and standards.
- Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including incident reporting, customer complaints, and medication error tracking.
- Engages in ongoing educational activities and fulfills mandatory training requirements.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Provides emergency care to pediatric patients, including those with suspected sepsis.
- Administers oral medications to infants, toddlers, and older children.
- Calculates fluid requirements for pediatric patients.
- Performs 12-lead ECGs on pediatric patients.
- Collects blood culture samples from pediatric patients.
Skill & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum three years full-time) or a Nursing degree (minimum two years) with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
- UAE nationals with UAE or non-UAE degrees are exempt from experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title (birth certificate and mother’s family book required).
- Non-UAE nationals graduating from UAE universities must complete six months of clinical training in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
- Valid license/registration to practice in home country or last country of employment, if applicable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification to be completed within six months of employment.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) certifications preferred.
- Minimum of two years of recent post-graduate experience in Pediatric Urgent Care Nursing.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate care and developmental needs of pediatric patients.
- Skilled in assessing patients and families’ physical and psychological needs.
- Ability to coordinate, plan, and prioritize care based on individual patient requirements.
