Job Description
A registered professional nurse who delivers direct patient care and coordinates all aspects of patient care using nursing principles. Provides care to patients admitted to critical care units.
Key Responsibilities
- Uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to ensure smooth functioning of the unit.
- Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care.
- Leads and organizes unit activities when acting as team leader or in-charge nurse.
- Participates in staff meetings, unit committees, and hospital projects.
- Promotes cooperation, coordination, and respect among staff and departments to ensure excellent patient service.
- Supports unit goal setting and achievement.
- Performs nursing assessments, plans, and interventions based on patients’ physical, psychological, and developmental needs.
- Revises care plans as needed and prioritizes care according to individual patient requirements.
- Assists medical staff with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Maintains accurate and thorough documentation in accordance with hospital standards.
- Provides patient and family education, tailored to age and understanding.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff, following infection control and safety protocols.
- Administers and documents narcotics/controlled drugs according to policy.
- Maintains professional development through completion of unit competencies and ongoing education, including critical care nursing competencies.
- Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues to support professional growth.
- Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, including incident reporting, medication error tracking, and hospital-wide CQI teams.
- Floats to other hospital areas as required to support patient care.
Skill & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum three years) or
- Diploma in Nursing (minimum three academic years) or
- Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (minimum three academic years), graduated from 1998 onward, with a pre-medical secondary school certificate or equivalent.
- Current license to practice nursing.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification to be obtained within six months of employment.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in critical care nursing.
